It’s Detox Time!
Jumpstart weight loss! This is a good time to naturally cleanse the body and assist your detoxification organs to get rid of the ‘toxins’ that are floating around in your body.
Keep in mind, the ‘detox’ does not have to be some awful experience, instead by removing certain foods and adding in some foods that provide instant detox is all you need to start with.
Let’s face it, if it’s too hard, we are not going to stick with it and are only setting us up for disappointment and failure.
Here are 18 foods to accelerate detox:
1. If you like tea then sipping some organic hibiscus tea, may actually helps with belly bloat. The flavonoids in the hibiscus plant counteract bloating by influencing how aldosterone, the hormone that regulates water and electrolytes balance, affects the body.
2. Avocado along with cilantro, the savory herb contains a unique blend of oils that settles an upset stomach and also is very filling to help prevent overeating.
3. The bright-orange spice turmeric, works as a powerful anti-inflammatory in the liver and can significantly reduce bile duct blockage and curb scarring (fibrosis) by interfering with chemical reactions involved in the inflammatory process. Wondering how to enjoy it? I mix it with a daily wheatgrass, apple cider, stevia beverage and sprinkle turmeric in. Another favorite during the cold weather, is to warm unsweetened coconut milk and add turmeric and stevia!
4. Asparagus is a natural diuretic helping flush out toxins. A study in the Journal of Food Science, stated that the amino acids and minerals found in asparagus may alleviate hangover symptoms and protect liver cells against toxins.
5. We all know that green leafy vegetables are superfoods and collard greens have an incredible ability to cleanse your system of excess cholesterol, especially when steamed. A study in the journal Nutrition Research compared bile acid binding capacity of steamed collard greens to Cholestyramine, cholesterol-lowering drug and collards improved the body’s cholesterol-blocking process by 13%.
6. One of my favorite daily rituals is to start each day by drinking lemon water which is squeezing one organic lemon into pure water. Citrus fruits are rich in the antioxidant de-limonene, which is a powerful compound found in the peel that stimulates liver enzymes to help flush toxins from the body and gives sluggish bowels a kickstart.
7. Wild salmon is rich in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids and may then help to reverse arterial stiffness which inhibits the flow of cleansing blood through the arteries and to vital organs. Therefore, wild salmon helps with detox and it’s yummy!
8. Beets contain a type of antioxidant called betalains that help repair and regenerate cells in the liver, the body’s primary detox center.
9. Love those sweet potatoes! They provides carcinoid and taste great thinly sliced and baked or added to a soup or crockpot meal.
10. Mustard is great for speeding up one’s metabolism and detoxification. Eating just one teaspoon can boost your metabolism by up to 25 percent for several hours! Add it to apple cider vinegar to make your own salad dressing.
11. Spinach contains a powerful appetite suppressing compounds called thylakoids and aids with detoxification.
12. Just a small handful amount of Almonds can help cleanse the fatty deposits that build up around your liver after weeks of overeating and drinking that put you at increased risk for liver cancer, according to recent study from the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
13. Artichokes promote healthy liver and gallbladder function; assist with detox and add some well needed fiber to your eating regime.
14. Sunflower seeds are loaded with magnesium, a very important mineral that keeps blood pressure normal, maintains steady heart rhythm and helps boost lipolysis, a process by which the body releases fat from its stores.
15. Berries are antioxidant rich and loaded with fiber which triggers your gut to produce butyrate, a fatty acid that reduces fat-causing inflammation throughout your body.
16. Watercress helps keep free radicals away from your cells, energizes cleansing enzymes in the liver, and is a natural diuretic.
17. Organic apples are loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, fiber, and very hydrating. An apple a day…
