Sugar toxicity is an epidemic these days because we aren’t always aware that sugar is the number one food additive in many products. Would you imagine that it can be in such foods as pizza, bread, hot dogs, boxed mixed rice, soup, crackers, spaghetti sauce, lunch meat, canned vegetables, fruit drinks, flavored yogurt, ketchup, salad dressing, mayonnaise, and some nut butters.
Understanding the different names for sugar can help if you are reading your labels, so I’ve included this chart as a reference for you:
Remember that sugar and other sweeteners—including high-fructose corn syrup and added sugars with the suffix -ose—offer only calories and no nutritional value. They are all extremely addictive.
Recent research stated that sugar and the likes are as addictive as cocaine! There is truly a biomedical reaction when we eat sugar as it releases opioids and dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that affects one’s adrenal system and produces a ‘high’ or reward feeling in the body, leading to compulsive behavior, not to mention weight gain, hormone imbalances, adrenal burnout, thyroid issues and much more. In addition, the more sugar you eat, the more you are building up a tolerance to the white stuff and getting more hardwired to needing or desiring it! You set your body and brain up for cravings, bingeing and withdrawals.
The problem is sugar is everywhere and you reward kids and yourself with it. No one wants to hear the truth about the negative side of the sweet stuff. People cannot live without it and they rather eat it and detox later. They shoot the messengers of the truth. Even if you cannot handle the sugary truth, you can monitor how much sugary stuff you are consuming on daily basis and cut that amount in half.
