Going food shopping? Need help selecting an authentic olive oil?
Check out the list of olive oils certified for both purity and quality by the North American Olive Oil Association.
In America, more than $700 million a year is spent on olive oil, but unfortunately, it is not really olive oil because of olive oil fraud. Most of the olive oils on the market are cut with cheap vegetable oils; many with soybean oil then they add beta-carotene & chlorophyll for color!
The results from the Consumer’s Report found that only 9 of the 23 olive oils from Italy, Spain, and California tested, and passed as being extra virgin olive oil even though all of them claimed so on the label. AND: “More than half tasted fermented or stale.”

Personally, I recommend choosing an organic one otherwise the olives can be loaded with multiple pesticides.
Also, olive oil stored in tinted glass bottles has longer shelf life because such glass filters UV light which is principally responsible for the deterioration in oil quality especially the for loss of vitamin E over time. They do update this list regularly, so check back to make sure your brand is still authentic.
