Did you know the rates of childhood conditions are skyrocketing? A new study in JAMA Pediatrics reports significant increases in children diagnosed with mental health conditions.
1 in 6 children has ADHD,
1 in 10 has anxiety,
and 1 in 36 has autism.
Sadly, these numbers worsen yearly, and it looks like it’s getting better sometime soon.
There is good news! Experts are now uncovering the root causes behind this epidemic, which involves the food we eat negatively or positively impacting the gut-brain axis.
The connection between a child’s body and brain is finally heavily researched. Proper nutrition interventions consistently improve brain development, language, anxiety, mood, attention, hyperactivity, sensory issues, sleep, digestive symptoms, and even picky eating. But there is no one-size-fits-all program; each requires a unique bio-individual nutrition approach.
That’s why I offer functional medicine lab testing for parents to gain insight into their children’s body functions, where the imbalances are, and what needs support. This personalized approach is becoming a big part of the future of healthcare and can be successfully used to improve the symptoms associated with these conditions.
On the flip side, as more children are developing these childhood conditions, there need to be more practitioners who understand and utilize biomedical and nutritional interventions. If you want to include this in your coaching or medical practice, then head over to https://totalwellnessempowermentinstitute.com/autism-expert-training/and register for accredited and certified training.
Too many families have nowhere to turn to find valuable autism and special needs children approaches that will cover functional medicine testing, customized supplement regimes, and nutritional intervention all in one place. YOU can be the expert that partners with them to take action. Your knowledge is needed! Be their hero, assisting in the healing process. Expand your practice as you help a child. The rewards are immeasurable.
In 1975, 1 in 5,000 children were diagnosed with autism. The current rate is 1 in 36, showing no sign of slowing down. “At today’s rate, by 2025, one in two children will be autistic. “-MIT researcher Dr. Stephanie Seneff.
According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder.
The dramatic increase of U.S. children ages 3 to 17 was reported as having ever experienced anxiety or depression. Chronic stress may lead to serious mental health problems: suicide, depression, and substance abuse. In addition, it can negatively impact one’s focus, concentration, and learning, leading to lifelong issues. Then there are the physical health issues that can develop, like headaches, migraines, GI issues, cardio, and chronic pain. There is no exception to anxiety disorders as it cuts across all demographics―suburban, urban, and rural. 80% of kids diagnosed with an anxiety disorder are not getting treatment! We must address the imbalances going on biomedically and support the body because anxiety disorders are highly treatable.
The first step is acknowledgment, so review the signs of anxiety disorders:
-Chronic physical issues such as fatigue, headaches, or stomachaches
-Changes in behavior, such as irritability
-Recurring fears, worries, and phobias about routine everyday life
-Avoiding activities, school, or social interactions
-Dropping grades or school avoidance
-Trouble sleeping or concentrating
-Substance use or other risky behaviors
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, 80% of kids diagnosed with anxiety are not getting treatment. In contrast, anxiety disorders are highly treatable using biomedical, nutritional, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. The earlier you start treatment, the better. Getting tested with non-invasive functional medicine labs is the first step to gaining insight into how one’s body functions, where the imbalances are, and following a customized protocol. Working with an experienced functional medicine specialist is essential to receive customized approaches instead of lab-generated recommendations. I have worked with many clients who have waited years before getting tested. Once they gained insight and started working on their imbalances, their only regret was wishing they had started earlier with the functional medicine approach because they finally started to feel better and reclaim their total wellness and life. The children who do not get tested grow up feeling severe anxiety, mood swings, and educational challenges which could have been alleviated with early intervention. It’s best to get to the root cause of the issue because the children do not have an Adderall or anti-depressant drug deficiency; their functionality is imbalanced and needs support.
Remember, your health is worth it because you are worth it. Nothing else matters when one does not feel optimal, so make yourself a priority today and get tested.
